One of the most searched video games today is Halo, the science fiction offering from Bungie Studios and Microsoft Game Studios. An action-packed battle between a cybernetically-enhanced super soldier and a theocratic alliance of alien races, the Halo Trilogy is considered to be the modern-day Star Wars video game. The 26-track Halo soundtrack features the music of composers Martin O’Donnel and Michael Salvatori. The eponymous single “Halo," which was used in the 1999 MacWorld Expo demonstration of Halo in New York, is included in the album. Joining O’Donnel and Salvatori in the list of contributing singers are Rob Trow, Jeffrey Morrow, and Robert Bowker.

The second album, Halo 2 soundtack, was divided into two volumes. The first volume featured songs from Incubus, Breaking Benjamin, and Hoobastank. “Halo Theme MJOLNIR Mix," which was released as a free downloadable version for Guitar Hero III: Legends of the Rock, features the performance of another guitar hero named Steve Vai. After two guitar-filled soundtracks, O’Donnel and Salvatori decided to pattern the album after volume 2 of the Halo 2 soundtrack. Recorded using a 60-piece orchestra, the Gregorian chant-inspired Halo 3 soundtrack was included in the twenty best-selling soundtracks and independent album listings.
